Star Wars Luke Skywalker Bespin (CD-ROM)
Power of the Jedi, 2001

Unproduced Luke Skywalker Bespin CD-ROM Prototype Figure

In 2001, Hasbro planned to launch a new figure assortment to include a CD-ROM, featuring an x-wing flight game and a way to create your own Jedi force file and send it to the internet. This mock up concept was advertised in the 2001 Hasbro Toy Fair catalog.

There were at least two Bespin themed action figures to be included in the assortment, Luke Skywalker & Darth Vader.  The Luke Skywalker featured a unique sculpt and included some new accessories.

The design of these figures made it as far as injection molded painted first shots.  However this line was cancelled and never made it to toy shelves.

Fun Fact:

In 2002, Hasbro released a new version of Luke Skywalker in Bespin gear as part of the Saga basic figure assortment.  While they look very similar and have completely different sculpts.

The Saga figure (on the right) was designed from this early concept and featured a slashing lightsaber attack feature, magnetic hand and articulated knees.

The accessories have slight differences in the sculpting and design.  The Saga lightsaber (on the right) features a metal hilt with two-piece design.  The tourniquet has a slightly different shape and thinner hose and the blaster has some very slight paint differences.

As the development process continued with this figure design, you will notice a transitional figure that included arms and a similar pegged hand from the CD-ROM version.  The torso, pelvis and legs from the Saga version.
